Our Projects

Our Projects, Campaigns and Activities aim to bring together the practical work BFFD is doing to support British farmers, farm shops, specialist producers, local food businesses and the people who want to buy from them. From building supplier visibility and creating educational food guides to developing community campaigns, partner opportunities and local food discovery tools, this section shows how BFFD is turning its mission into action. Each project is designed to help more people find, understand and support local food while giving producers a stronger voice in the British food system.

Roots for Renewal

Roots for Renewal is a BFFD community food project designed to show how growing, preparing and understanding food can help people rebuild confidence, routine and purpose. The project focuses on people who may be rebuilding their lives after difficult circumstances, including prison leavers, rehabilitation supported individuals, probation supported people and those working with community organisations to develop new skills and healthier pathways.

Field to Classroom

Field to Classroom is a BFFD education project created to help children and young people understand where food comes from. The project links classroom learning with farms, growers, local producers, seasonal food and practical food knowledge, helping schools make food education more visual, memorable and connected to real British food production.

Grow It Forward

Grow It Forward is a BFFD community growing project built around the idea that small food actions can create wider community value. It encourages people, groups, schools, gardens and local organisations to grow food, share surplus, support others and help make practical food knowledge more visible in everyday life.

Farm to Future

Farm to Future is a BFFD careers and skills project designed to introduce people to the wide range of opportunities that exist across farming, food production, local supply and rural enterprise. The project highlights the future of British food work, from practical land based roles to food technology, farm retail, logistics, marketing, sustainability and specialist production.

The British Resilience Project

The British Resilience Project is a BFFD food visibility and producer support project focused on strengthening British food resilience. It helps improve how farms, farm shops, growers and local food businesses present their products, explain their value and connect with the public, supporting clearer food choices, stronger local supply routes and better community understanding.

Rain to Recycle

Rain to Roots is a BFFD water conservation project designed to help households, growers, allotment holders, schools, farms and community gardens collect, store and reuse rainwater more effectively. The project is built around a simple idea: water falling freely from the sky should not automatically be allowed to run off roofs, into drains and away from the land when it could be captured and used to grow food.
