Climate Action Reserve is a carbon offset programme and registry that develops standards for measuring and verifying greenhouse gas reductions. It was originally established in the United States but also supports selected international projects. Certified projects can generate Climate Reserve Tonnes, with each credit representing one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent reduced or removed. Its protocols cover areas including forestry, livestock methane, landfill gas and ozone depleting substances.
