The Peatland Code is a voluntary certification standard for peatland restoration projects in the United Kingdom. Damaged peatlands can release significant quantities of greenhouse gases, so restoring them can prevent emissions while improving biodiversity, water quality and flood resilience. Projects are independently validated and verified before carbon benefits are issued as Peatland Carbon Units or Pending Issuance Units. The standard provides buyers with confidence that restoration outcomes are measurable and properly monitored.
